A Big Switch in the Security Team
Washington, USAFriday, May 2, 2025
Waltz’s mistake involved adding a journalist to a private chat on an encrypted messaging app. This chat was used to discuss a sensitive military operation in Yemen. The journalist, Jeffrey Goldberg, was not supposed to be part of the conversation. This blunder raised serious questions about security and trust.
The President has stood by Waltz throughout this controversy. However, there have been calls from some people for Waltz to be removed from his position. These calls came from those who believe Waltz was not loyal enough to the President’s agenda. Despite this, Waltz has maintained that he did not know how the journalist ended up in the chat.
Waltz’s new role as U. N. ambassador means he will have to go through a Senate confirmation hearing. This process can be tough, and lawmakers will likely ask him tough questions about his mistake. Several senior aides are being considered to eventually take on the national security adviser role. These include special envoys Steve Witkoff and Richard Grenell, among others. Each of these individuals brings a unique set of skills and experiences to the table.
