A Blast from the Past and More

The Lakeshore Community Concerts season is wrapping up with a bang. The final show is a tribute to the 1960s, featuring Sixtiesmania. This band covers everything from the Beatles to the music of Woodstock. The concert will be held at Highland High School’s Monbeck Auditorium, 9135 Erie St. in Highland. Tickets are $30 and the concert is at 2 p. m. Sunday, March 16. The Lakeshore Community Concerts is an all-volunteer, non-profit association that has been bringing outstanding live performances to the Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland community since 1947. The Michigan City Chamber Music Festival (MCCMF) is celebrating Women’s History Month with a free concert titled “Take a Deep Breath. ” The event features Jennet Ingle on oboe and Siwon Kim on piano. The concert will be held at 3 p. m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 600 Franklin St. in Michigan City. Ingle is Principal Oboist of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra and Kim is praised for her “masterful musicality with the distinct, unrestrained sound. ” The event is free and open to the public.

The Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra is hosting “Musical Masterpieces” at 7:30 p. m. March 21. The concert will be held at Living Hope Church, 9000 West Taft St. in Merrillville. The concert features Thomas Stark on trombone and Maestro Kirk Muspratt. The concert will include a musical depiction of an art exhibit by Russian painter Viktor Hartmann and the overture for composer Weber’s romantic opera based on Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream. ” Tickets start at $10 for students and $45 for adults. The Dunes Summer Theatre is partnering with The Acting Company of New York for a performance of August Wilson’s “Two Trains Running. ” The play is directed by Lili-Anne Brown and hosted at Holdcraft Performing Arts Center, 1200 Spring St. in Michigan City. The play tells the story of Memphis Lee, a diner owner in a historically black neighborhood in Pittsburgh at the height of the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Tickets are $50. The Well Suited Theater Company is back with a night of interactive theater and comedy. The show will be held at Chicago Street Theatre, 154 West Chicago St. in downtown Valparaiso. The show is recommended for ages 18 and over. Tickets are $20 general admission.
