A Brave Voice Silenced: Nobel Winner's Fight for Justice
A Rough Arrest and Hospital Visits
Narges Mohammadi, a renowned human rights defender, was hospitalized twice following a violent arrest. Her family revealed that she sustained severe injuries at the hands of security forces. This incident occurred on December 12, just days after she publicly condemned the mysterious death of lawyer Khosrow Alikordi.
A Lifetime of Activism
Mohammadi is no stranger to advocacy. For years, she has championed women's rights and campaigned against the death penalty in Iran. In 2023, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize—while imprisoned. Her fight, however, has been fraught with challenges. She was re-arrested shortly after her release last year for medical treatment.
Clashing Narratives
Authorities allege that Mohammadi and Alikordi's brother incited unrest at the lawyer's memorial, encouraging slogans and disruptions. Her family, however, presents a starkly different account. They claim she was brutally beaten and hospitalized as a result.
During a family call, Mohammadi sounded weak and unwell. She disclosed that she had been accused of collaborating with the Israeli government and had received death threats from security forces. In response, she instructed her legal team to file a complaint against the forces for their violent arrest tactics.
The Uncertain Road Ahead
The Iranian authorities have yet to comment on these developments. One thing remains certain, however: Narges Mohammadi's fight for justice is far from over.
