A Couple's Journey: From Health Scare to Welcoming a Rainbow Baby
A Health Scare and a Strong Recovery
Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert have shared their emotional journey of becoming parents. Their story begins with a health scare that put Erbert's life at risk. She had surgery to replace a large part of her skull. This was a big deal, but she made it through. After that, they wanted to start a family.
A Cautious Pregnancy Announcement
They announced their pregnancy in July 2025. But they waited until Erbert was nearly 20 weeks along to share the news. This was because they had suffered a miscarriage before. They were scared something might go wrong again. They wanted to be sure everything was okay before telling the world.
A Special Home Birth
The couple chose to have their baby at home. They made the atmosphere special with candles and music. Hough was amazed by Erbert's strength during labor. He said,
"She just became power. I was in awe the whole time."
Erbert also felt the moment was very special.
A Peaceful Pregnancy
Erbert had a relatively easy pregnancy with their daughter, Everley. She didn't have much morning sickness. She felt at peace and enjoyed feeling her baby move. Now, she finds it fascinating to see Everley's kicks and movements in real life.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead, the couple isn't ruling out having more children. Erbert joked that their first child made them want a million more. Hough agreed, saying they were ready to go again. They seem happy and excited about their future together.
