Tucson Search for Nancy Guthrie’s Missing Mother Stalls

In Tucson, the search for Nancy Guthrie’s missing mother has hit a confusing pause. A delivery driver, Carlos Palazuelos, was briefly taken into police custody after a traffic stop but released later that night. He has insisted he knows nothing about the case and that he “never follows the news.”

Palazuelos, 36, told reporters he was driving with his wife when officers began following him. They pulled over the couple; he exited the car and was quickly escorted into a squad car. He said investigators asked few questions and that he felt “held against my will.”

The driver works for a parcel service in Tucson. He claims he may have delivered a package to the Guthrie house but never met Nancy or her daughter. While in custody, police searched his home and showed him a doorbell‑camera clip of a masked intruder outside the house on the night Nancy disappeared. Palazuelos’ mother‑in‑law told a local station that the man in the video did not match his son’s appearance.

The FBI released images and a short video of that intruder earlier this week, using advanced recovery tools. The footage was taken from a security system the family did not subscribe to, yet it shows someone standing near the front door in the early hours. Authorities have also searched the homes of Nancy’s eldest daughter, Annie, and her husband Tommaso, who were last to see her alive after dinner on January 31.

Police have not yet identified a suspect, and the case remains open. They say digital evidence from Nancy’s smartwatch and pacemaker suggests she was taken between 1:47 a. m. and 2:28 a. m., but no definitive lead has emerged.
