The researchers found that religion is a vital coping resource for these families. Many believe that health and illness are connected to spiritual practices or actions. As a result, caregivers seek spiritual support alongside medical treatments. They participate in rituals like prayer, fasting, and bathing with or drinking holy water, called "tsebel.

" These practices aim to alleviate physical pain, emotional stress, and boost social connections. Families appreciate that religious services in Addis Ababa are inclusive, welcoming all beliefs. This openness allows them to feel supported and included, giving them a sense of control and hope despite uncertainty.
