A Fresh Start for Fire Victims
The LA City Council’s Budget and Finance Committee made a step in the right direction. They decided to waive permit fees for victims of the Palisades Fire. This is a good move, but it's a bit late. The full council should approve this soon.
Unfair to Charge Victims
It's unfair to charge people to rebuild their homes. The city didn't do enough to stop the fire. They didn't send enough firefighters or ensure there was enough water. Now, they want money from those who lost everything.
Councilmember Traci Park's Efforts
Councilmember Traci Park deserves praise. She has been a strong voice for her community. She fought for this change, from the fire zone to City Hall.
The City Can Do More
But the city can do more. Last year, Mayor Karen Bass promised to repeal Measure ULA. This tax affects all buildings sold for over $5 million. The city didn't start the repeal process on time. They failed.
Urgent Action Needed
The city needs to act faster. They need to help those who suffered. No more delays. The council must step up and do what's right.
