A Grandfather's Tragic Christmas Eve
San Diego, CA – A family is grieving the loss of their beloved patriarch, Roberto Luis, after a devastating accident on Christmas Eve. The 61-year-old grandfather was struck and killed by a massive tree branch near his home as severe weather swept through the area.
A Heartbreaking Incident
The branch initially knocked Luis unconscious. When emergency responders arrived, they found him in cardiac arrest. Despite their valiant efforts, the weight of the branch prevented them from lifting it quickly enough to save him.
A Loving Man Remembered
Luis' family described him as a kind and generous man who always put others first. His daughter-in-law shared her sorrow, revealing how difficult it was to deliver the tragic news to the children on Christmas Eve. She also disclosed that the family had reported concerns about the tree's safety for over five years, yet no action was taken.
City's Response
The city stated that the tree was inspected in January 2024, and no issues were identified. They also claimed there were no records of maintenance requests for that specific tree.
Amid Severe Weather Conditions
This tragedy unfolded as California faced extreme weather conditions. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in L.A. County and other Southern California counties due to the severe weather risks. At least one other person died in a weather-related incident the same day.
