Exposure Time Frame:

  • 11:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Symptoms of Measles

  • High fever
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red, watery eyes
  • Rash (appears 3-5 days after initial symptoms)

Potential Symptom Onset:

  • As late as February 28

High-Risk Individuals

  • Unvaccinated individuals
  • Those who have never had measles before

Transmission

  • Spreads through:
  • Talking
  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Can remain airborne for up to two hours
  • Contact with mucus or saliva can also transmit the virus

Complications

  • Pneumonia
  • Inflammation of the brain
  • Pregnant women at risk of:
  • Miscarriage
  • Low-birth-weight baby

Contagious Period

  • Four days before rash appears
  • Four days after rash appears

Health Advisory

  • Do not go to a medical center without calling first.
  • Contact the state health office or a doctor if symptoms appear.
