Exposure Time Frame:

Symptoms of Measles
- High fever
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Red, watery eyes
- Rash (appears 3-5 days after initial symptoms)
Potential Symptom Onset:
- As late as February 28
High-Risk Individuals
- Unvaccinated individuals
- Those who have never had measles before
Transmission
- Spreads through:
- Talking
- Coughing
- Sneezing
- Can remain airborne for up to two hours
- Contact with mucus or saliva can also transmit the virus
Complications
- Pneumonia
- Inflammation of the brain
- Pregnant women at risk of:
- Miscarriage
- Low-birth-weight baby
Contagious Period
- Four days before rash appears
- Four days after rash appears
Health Advisory
- Do not go to a medical center without calling first.
- Contact the state health office or a doctor if symptoms appear.
