A Montana Businessman's Insurrection Journey Ends in Prison

Henry Phillip "Hank" Muntzer, a 55-year-old business owner from Dillon, Montana, has been sentenced to two years in prison for his part in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The felony charges, which included obstruction of an official proceeding and civil disorder, were reduced to misdemeanors due to recent Supreme Court rulings. Muntzer, a supporter of former President Donald Trump, traveled to Washington D.C. with friends for the "Stop the Steal" rally. After the speech, he joined a crowd marching toward the Capitol, where he spent about 38 minutes inside.

His actions involved physical confrontations with law enforcement near the Senate chamber and the Capitol Rotunda. Prosecutors noted that he resisted efforts to remove him, making him one of the last to leave. More than 1,500 people have been charged in relation to the Capitol riot, with over 650 receiving prison sentences ranging from days to over two decades. Muntzer is known locally for a pro-QAnon mural on his appliance store, reflecting his involvement in conspiracy theories.
