Lori Vallow Daybell, a woman who has been dubbed the "doomsday mom, " is facing another legal battle. She is set to represent herself in a trial concerning the death of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow. This trial is happening in Arizona, the state where Charles Vallow was living when he was killed. Charles Vallow was shot and killed by Lori's brother, Alex Cox, back in July 2019. Cox passed away later that same year due to a pulmonary embolism, so he never faced any charges for the shooting. Lori Vallow Daybell has pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge related to Charles Vallow's death. Before his death, Charles Vallow had filed for divorce and had expressed serious concerns about his safety. In a police body camera video from January 2019, he told officers that his wife had "lost her mind. " He described how she had taken his car and locked him out of their home. He warned the police that she was dangerous and had threatened to kill him. The officer asked him about the threat to their children, Joshua "JJ" Vallow and Tylee Ryan. Charles Vallow admitted he didn't know what she might do to them, but he feared she might flee with them or harm them.

The police did not take any action at the time, stating that the situation was not criminal. Unfortunately, Charles Vallow was murdered just six months later. Lori Vallow Daybell was later indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury on conspiracy to commit murder, a charge that was later upgraded to first-degree murder. Lori Vallow Daybell's legal troubles do not stop there. She was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2023 for the murders of her two children, Joshua "JJ" Vallow and Tylee Ryan, as well as for conspiring to murder Tammy Daybell, the wife of her current husband, Chad Daybell. Witnesses at her trial described how she believed some people, including her children and Charles Vallow, were "zombies" or possessed by evil spirits. The children's remains were found on property belonging to Chad Daybell, sparking a month-long search. Chad Daybell was also convicted in the deaths of Tammy Daybell, Joshua, and Tylee. He was sentenced to the death penalty. In an interview, Lori Vallow Daybell claimed she was falsely accused and convicted. She believes she and Chad Daybell will be exonerated because Jesus showed her the future, and they are not behind bars. Lori Vallow Daybell is also charged with conspiring to kill Brandon Boudreaux, the estranged husband of her niece. A trial date for this case has not been set yet.
