A Mother's Journey Through Breast Cancer

Tina Knowles, the mother of music icons Beyoncé and Solange, recently shared her personal experience with breast cancer. She was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer in her left breast after a delayed mammogram revealed two tumors. This news came as a shock to her, as she had always prioritized her health. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many routine screenings were postponed, including Tina's mammogram. It was not until last year that she rescheduled and discovered the tumors. One was benign, while the other was cancerous. Doctors believe that regular screenings might have detected the cancer at Stage 0, which is when it is still confined to the breast tissue.

Despite the delay, the cancer had not spread and was growing slowly. Tina underwent a lumpectomy in August to remove the tumor from her left breast. She is now cancer-free. Her daughters and close friends rallied around her, providing support and comfort before her surgery. Solange and niece Angie Beyincé even sang a special song to her, reminding her of God's protection. Tina almost missed the Glamour's 2024 Women of the Year event due to a serious post-surgical infection. Her family, particularly Beyoncé, insisted she prioritize her health and rest. However, the award held deep personal significance for her, marking a moment of self-recognition and acceptance. She spoke about her daughters' unwavering support during her battle with cancer.
