A New Generation Shines at Flint’s 70‑Year Science Fair

Flint, Michigan, USAFriday, March 13, 2026
Mid‑Michigan students gather in downtown Flint for a two‑day science showdown. The event kicks off Friday with students setting up their projects at the University of Michigan‑Flint’s Riverfront Residence Hall and Banquet Center. Saturday is the real action: judges review the displays, interview finalists, and hand out prizes. The fair welcomes participants from 13 counties, all of whom design their own experiments using science and engineering techniques. Judging starts online; the best entries move on to face judges in person.
Those who advance are called finalists and may win an all‑expensed trip to the International Science & Engineering Fair. Even students who don’t make it to the final round get a chance to speak with judges and can receive special awards from local businesses. The fair is one of the country’s oldest science competitions and will award tens of thousands of dollars in prizes, scholarships, and learning opportunities. The public can watch the projects from 2 p. m. to 5:30 p. m. Saturday, and a ceremony follows at 6 p. m.
