A New Softball Star Joins the Family Legacy
Chittenango Standout Chooses In-State D1 Program
Alivia Cavotta, a standout softball player from Chittenango, has made a significant decision to play softball at Le Moyne College. This is a notable achievement as she becomes the third child in her family to play college sports.
A Family of Athletes
- Brother Aiden: A senior defensive back at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), who started as quarterback for the Bears in 2021.
- Sister Anna: A freshman softball player at RIT, a two-time first-team All-CNY selection.
The Cavotta Advantage
Alivia credits her family for her success:
- Mom & Brother: Taught her about support and competition.
- Sister: Pushed her to be better.
- Dad: Helped her put it all together.
A Lifetime of Softball
Softball has always been a big part of Alivia's life. She started dreaming of playing in college in eighth grade, when she hit .377 and helped her team win Chittenango's first-ever softball sectional title alongside her sister Anna.
The Decision
Le Moyne College showed interest in Alivia and invited her to camps, but she couldn't attend. When she finally visited the school in September, she was excited. She wanted to play Division I while staying in-state. Le Moyne's education program also caught her attention.
After a month of consideration, Alivia decided to commit to Le Moyne. She doesn't know of any other current Section III players joining her, but the Dolphins already have two Section III alums whom Anna played against:
- Junior Sydney Nesci
- Freshman Camryn Shenk
- New assistant coach Alyssa Dybacz
Looking Ahead
Alivia is looking forward to the upcoming spring season, excited to focus on her sport without the stress of the recruitment process. The Bears are hoping to build on their back-to-back trips to the Class B semifinals.
