A Pop Music Treasure Trove: Unheard Michael Jackson Songs Discovered

It’s not every day that a stay-at-home dad stumbles upon music history. Recently, former California Highway Patrol officer Gregg Musgrove found himself in possession of a remarkable discovery. In an abandoned storage unit in the San Fernando Valley, Musgrove stumbled upon a treasure trove of unreleased Michael Jackson tapes. These tapes, once owned by music producer Bryan Loren, contained 12 songs that Michael Jackson worked on before his Dangerous album, around 1989 to 1991. Musgrove, now 56, was introduced to this musical find by an associate who had purchased the storage unit in Van Nuys. The tapes include songs that Jackson fans have heard rumors about and even some that have never been publicly released. Musgrove was thrilled to hear these unheard tracks and gain insights into Jackson’s creative process through the tapes. One of the intriguing tracks is titled “Don’t Believe It, ” which seems to address the media rumors swirling around the pop star at the time. Another track, “Seven Digits, ” includes Jackson discussing the song’s meaning, which references the identification numbers bodies receive in a morgue.

A particularly fascinating track is “Truth on Youth, ” a rap duet between Jackson and LL Cool J. This collaboration is notable because it features Jackson rapping, a rare occurrence in his discography. LL Cool J has previously confirmed working with Jackson, validating the authenticity of the tapes. However, Musgrove is likely one of the few to ever hear these tapes. He approached the Jackson Estate earlier this year, but they declined to purchase them for unknown reasons. The estate did acknowledge that they do not claim ownership of the tapes but clarified that the copyrights belong to them, effectively preventing public release. The value of this discovery remains uncertain, but Musgrove estimates it could be worth seven figures. He plans to take the tapes to major auction houses, hoping that a celebrity memorabilia collector, like Lady Gaga, might add them to their collection. Currently, the tapes are securely stored under the control of Musgrove’s attorney.
