A Powerful Return: Ram Brings Back the TRX
Ram is bringing back its high-performance TRX pickup truck, and this time, it's even more powerful.
The new 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX will hit the market late in 2026, with an expected price tag of around $100,000. This truck first appeared in 2021 but was discontinued in 2024 as the company shifted focus away from V-8 engines.
Power and Performance
The TRX is renowned for its speed and power, featuring a supercharged 6.2-liter "Hellcat" gas engine. This engine produces a staggering 777 horsepower and 680 foot-pounds of torque. Ram claims it's the fastest and most powerful gas-powered pickup truck in the world, capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 118 mph.
Strategic Importance
Despite its high price, the TRX is a halo model for Ram, drawing attention to the brand and potentially boosting sales of other Ram models. Tim Kuniskis, Ram's CEO, is leading this turnaround with ambitious plans. He aims to make more than 25 announcements by next year, including a return to NASCAR and the revival of Hemi V-8 engines.
Broader Strategy
The return of the TRX is part of a larger strategy by Stellantis, Ram's parent company, to revive its U.S. sales, which have been declining since 2021. Changes in fuel economy regulations have also impacted the company, but Kuniskis is pressing ahead with his plans.
Jeep's Turnaround
Ram isn't the only brand under Stellantis looking for a comeback. Jeep is also working on a turnaround, with sales declining since 2018. The "Jeep reset" plan includes repositioning the brand's pricing and models, as well as streamlining the product lineup. New Jeeps include a resurrected Cherokee midsize SUV and an all-electric Recon. Bob Broderdorf, Jeep's CEO, assures that the brand remains profitable despite the changes.
Future Outlook
The future looks promising for both Ram and Jeep. Kuniskis believes both brands are moving in the right direction, while Broderdorf is optimistic about Jeep's growth. The coming years will be crucial for Stellantis as they aim to conquer buyers from other brands in the competitive auto industry.
