Santiago Canyon College (SCC) marked its 25th anniversary with a spectacular gala in November, raising an unprecedented $124,000 for the college's foundation. This historic event not only celebrated a quarter-century of educational excellence but also set a new benchmark for fundraising at SCC.

A Night of Celebration and Recognition

Held at The Richland in Orange and sponsored by SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, the gala attracted over 170 supporters, alumni, and community partners. The evening honored SCC's legacy while raising funds to shape its future. Three distinguished alumni were recognized for their achievements:

  • Dr. Heidy Sasvin
  • Jarad Hildenbrand
  • Phillip Wu

Highlights of the Evening

The event was filled with excitement, including a live auction and a paddle raise, where guests made on-the-spot donations. The most inspiring moment came when Sara Gasca, a current SCC student, shared her incredible journey.

Gasca, a 30-year-old mother of twins, overcame a difficult childhood marked by drugs and abuse. After dropping out of college post-high school, she found a second chance at SCC. Now, she maintains a 3.89 GPA while pursuing a degree in geology and interning at NASA. Her story is a testament to how SCC transforms lives.

Funding the Future

The funds raised will establish the Strenger Vasquez Legacy of Innovation Fund, named after two former SCC presidents. This scholarship will empower more students to achieve their dreams. The SCC Foundation also supports on-campus programs, including:

  • Hawks Nest Basic Needs Center
  • Speech and Debate Team

A Commitment to Education

Betty Valencia, SCC Foundation Board Chair and alumna, emphasized the college's dedication to students. Thanks to the gala's success, SCC can continue making a difference in students' lives and helping them reach their goals.
