Scott Shriner, the bassist for the band Weezer, is facing a significant life change as his wife, Jillian Lauren, has decided to end their 20-year marriage. This decision comes after a dramatic incident involving the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) earlier this year.

The Divorce Filing

Lauren, a well-known author, filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason. She did not specify when they officially separated. The couple shares two teenage sons.

In her divorce petition, Lauren requested:

  • Joint legal and physical custody of their children
  • Spousal support
  • Payment of her legal fees by Shriner
  • Removal of Shriner's last name from her legal name

The Incident

The divorce filing follows a serious incident in April. Police arrested Lauren on suspicion of attempted murder after she allegedly fired a gun at LAPD officers who were searching for a suspect in a hit-and-run case. The officers shot back, injuring Lauren but not critically.

The incident occurred near Lauren's home in Eagle Rock. Police were looking for suspects from a hit-and-run on the 134 Freeway and saw Lauren in her backyard with a handgun. They claimed she pointed it at them. The shooting happened just days before Weezer's performance at the famous Coachella festival.

Lauren was charged with assault and negligent discharge of a firearm. She pleaded not guilty to these felony charges. However, in September, a judge granted her diversion due to mental health issues. If she avoids owning firearms, using drugs or alcohol, and attends therapy for two years, the charges will be dropped.

Health Struggles

Before the shooting, Lauren had been recovering from cancer treatment and a hysterectomy. She shared her health struggles with her Instagram followers, thanking her medical team for their support.

Weezer's Upcoming Performances

Meanwhile, Shriner and his bandmates are preparing for their upcoming performances at Australia's Good Things Festival.
