A Special Sky Show: The Leonids Meteor Shower This Weekend

This weekend, something exciting is happening in the night sky! The Leonids meteor shower will be extra easy to see, say experts. This isn't just any meteor shower. It's linked to a comet called 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, which is about 3. 6 kilometers wide and takes 33 years to orbit the Sun. Every November, Earth passes through the leftover dust and ice from this comet, causing a light show. This year, between November 16th and 17th, and again early on November 18th, the Leonids might put on a great show. Expect around 15 meteors per hour!

But why is it special this year? The Leonids are known for their 33-year cycle, where they produce a "storm" of meteors. Though we're not due for a storm until 2099, this year could still be memorable. The trails we'll see were laid down centuries ago. In 1633 and 1733, there were storms that created dense clouds of debris. This weekend, we might see a glimpse of that past glory.
