A Week of Changing Weather for DC

Washington DC metropolitan area, USASunday, June 28, 2026
The day after today, the area will keep getting wet with rain and a bit of heat. In the evening, light showers and a few storms will move through most places but should finish up around midnight. The strongest storms could happen mostly to the south, near Virginia’s Northern Neck and Southern Maryland, where gusty winds might damage property. Otherwise the sky will stay warm and humid as temperatures drop into the 60s, and a thin fog may appear at sunrise. On Sunday, an extra disturbance will bring more frequent showers and storms across the city. Although some thunderstorms could be severe, they are expected to bring short bursts of heavy rain, lightning and strong winds. Most of the weather action will calm by sunset, leaving clear skies for the night.
Monday looks like a bright day. A high‑pressure system will bring sunny periods and light clouds, reducing the chance of rain. The temperature will stay comfortable in the mid‑to‑upper 80s and humidity will be moderate, making it a good day for outdoor activities before the heat starts to rise. By Tuesday, the high pressure will push farther out over the ocean and bring southerly breezes. The afternoon heat will climb into the low 90s under mostly sunny skies, and humidity will slowly increase. Rain remains unlikely.
