ABC Supply: A Builder‑First Story

Kalispell, Montana, USASunday, July 26, 2026

The warehouse in Evergreen is full of materials ready for new homes.

  • Metal sheets hang on the wall, waiting to become gutters.
  • Colorful trims line shelves, ready for siding.
  • Outside, shingles and panels spread across the yard.

But the company is more than just supplies.

Craig Metzler, general manager
“People who build homes come here. I enjoy working with them.”

The idea started in 1982 when Kenneth Hendricks, a contractor’s son, and his wife bought three stores in Wisconsin. They wanted a place where builders could find siding, roofing, and other exterior parts without long waits or rude service. Metzler added the idea that a local, family‑style approach keeps the business friendly.

Today ABC Supply has over 700 locations nationwide, including four in Montana. The Kalispell store opened in 2023 under Metzler’s leadership.

Metzler began as a delivery driver after losing his job in Nebraska. He learned every product by carrying pallets of shingles and learning the differences between siding types. He lost weight and gained knowledge in just a few months.

Now he spends most of his time behind a desk, but still keeps up with new materials. Trends shift from warm vinyl siding to dark wood‑composite options, and he adapts quickly. He also shows builders new tools, like boots with magnetic soles for metal roofs.

ABC Supply plans more showroom upgrades and yard expansions. All products are shipped directly to job sites, with photo confirmation when they arrive.

The company’s core is simple:
Put contractors first.
“Anything that helps their work and makes it easier,” Metzler says.
