Afghanistan Withdrawal: Blinken's Late Admission

Secretary of State Antony Blinken finally acknowledged Wednesday that he and President Biden might share some responsibility for the deadly Kabul airport attack in 2021, which took the lives of 13 U. S. service members. During his congressional testimony, Blinken expressed regret, saying, "I deeply regret we did not do more to protect them. " This admission comes after years of dodging congressional subpoenas. So, what changed? Biden's political future is no longer at stake after his defeat in the recent presidential election. With no re-election campaign to worry about, Blinken was able to admit that the Afghan withdrawal was a disaster. The withdrawal left America humiliated, local allies abandoned, and a dangerous terrorist group in power.

Despite this admission, Blinken still maintains that the withdrawal decision was the right one. He also tried to shift the blame to former President Trump. This half-hearted apology is similar to Biden's infamous watch-checking incident during a ceremony for the fallen troops. For Biden and his team, the focus has always been on short-term political gains, ignoring the long-term consequences of their actions.
