Apple has rolled out new firmware updates for both the AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Pro 2. This comes just before the expected launch of iOS 26.2. It's interesting to note that Apple has released different firmware builds for each model this time, which is not always the case.

Firmware Details

  • AirPods Pro 3: Updated to firmware build 8B30 (from 8B25)
  • AirPods Pro 2: Updated to firmware 8B28 (from 8B21)

Apple usually updates its AirPods firmware webpage to detail any improvements or changes, but for now, only the previous builds are listed.

What to Expect?

Most firmware updates come with vague release notes like "Bug fixes and other improvements." However, since these updates are so close to the iOS 26.2 launch, there might be more specific improvements mentioned this time. We already know that iOS 26.2 will expand AirPods Live Translation to the EU.

How to Update Your AirPods Firmware

Updating AirPods firmware is not as straightforward as updating an iPhone or iPad. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Ensure your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is updated to the latest software and that Bluetooth is turned on.
  2. Connect your AirPods to your device via Bluetooth.
  3. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Wi-Fi.
  4. Plug in your AirPods charging case.
  5. Put your AirPods in the charging case and close the lid.
  6. Keep the lid closed and your AirPods within Bluetooth range of your device for at least 30 minutes.
  7. After 30 minutes, open the lid to reconnect your AirPods.
  8. Check the firmware version again.
