Alien Hunting: The Tricky Science
EARTHThursday, November 7, 2024
The problem is, aliens could have abilities we can't even imagine. This makes it hard to design an experiment that can find them directly. So, scientists suggest looking for something that doesn't come from anything we already know. To link this back to aliens, they use a second step. In the end, they say it's practically impossible to prove aliens exist unless we're really sure there's no other explanation from unknown science.
This means alien hunters have to think hard about something tricky: how likely is it that we don't know everything yet? Maybe new physics or chemistry could explain things we see. Sometimes, the best experiments are those where we think we know everything already.
