Amsterdam's Dark Night: A Modern Pogrom

In Amsterdam, Israeli soccer fans and Jewish people found themselves chased and attacked after a match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax. One victim compared it to Kristallnacht, the 1938 German pogrom, saying it's what it would have looked like with social media. An IDF officer recounted his friend being beaten until he shouted "Free Palestine. " Five Israelis were hospitalized, and 62 people were arrested. Witnesses described pre-planned attacks, with messages like "Blocking the players bus of those f–king Jews" circulating.

Another victim hid Israelis in his hotel room. A tech worker noted the violence started the night before, with attacks escalating after the match. Groups of friends formed rescue teams to protect lone Israelis. The Amsterdam police were criticized for inaction, attributed to fear and potential antisemitism.
