The tech world is buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming Apple Watch releases in 2025.  The Apple Watch Series 11 is expected to hit the market in September.  This is not a surprise, as Apple has consistently launched a new Apple Watch model every year since 2014.  The only exception was the very first model.  The timing of the release is less certain.  Historically, the new model has gone on sale a few days to a couple of weeks after the big September keynote.  However, recent years have seen delays due to production issues.  Additionally, newly imposed tariffs could affect the launch and pricing of the new watch in 2025.

There are rumors about multiple Apple Watch models coming out this year.  Besides the Series 11, there are speculations about updated Ultra and SE models.  The Apple Watch Ultra and the more affordable SE line have not followed a predictable upgrade cycle.  Last year, only the Series 10 was announced.  This could mean that 2025 might be the year when all three models get an update.

The design of the Series 11 is expected to be similar to the Series 10.  This includes the large edge-to-edge screen with brighter, lighter, and thinner bezels.  Any changes will likely be minor and driven by new technology under the hood.  The more affordable SE model might see a more significant design overhaul.  It could get several upgrades from the Series 10, like an always-on display.  The higher-end Ultra 3 might feature a more energy-efficient screen, such as an LTPO display with higher resolution and better brightness.  This could help improve battery life.

Apple typically upgrades the processor with every new smartwatch.  So, the Series 11 and Ultra 3 are expected to get an Apple S11 chip.  The Ultra 3 might also get satellite connectivity and 5G support, but these features might not make it to the Series 11.  The SE model could get a processor bump up to the S9 chip, which is currently in the Ultra 2 and the Apple Watch Series 9.

Battery life is a big concern for many users.  The Series 10 introduced faster charging, but the battery life remains the same.  There are no rumors about improved battery life for the new Apple Watches.  However, it would be great if Apple addressed this issue.  Some Android models use dual chipsets to optimize battery life.  It would be interesting to see if Apple adopts a similar strategy.

The price of the Apple Watch Series 11 is expected to be similar to the Series 10.  The 42mm aluminum version could cost $399, and the 46mm version could cost $429.  Upgrades for cover material and LTE connectivity will likely cost extra.  However, recently enacted tariffs could affect the pricing.  The most expensive variant could be a solid gold or diamond-encrusted Hermès model.

There are rumors about new health and fitness features for the Apple Watch.  Blood pressure tracking has been a persistent rumor, but it's unclear when it will be ready.  Apple has been testing the feature, but there have been problems.  Other wearables companies have proven it's possible to measure blood pressure from the wrist.  However, adding this feature would likely require new sensors and a bulkier design.  Glucose monitoring is also in the mix, but it's further down the line.  The blood oxygen feature that debuted on the Series 6 might not make a comeback this year due to legal issues.

There's a rumor about the Apple Watch getting a camera.  This wouldn't be for selfies, but for AI-based image recognition.  Apple introduced a visual search tool on the iPhone that uses the camera to provide relevant information about objects and places.  Apple is exploring this option for the Apple Watch, but it might not make its way to the device until the 2027 models.  This could hint at the kind of AI integration that will arrive with WatchOS 12.  WatchOS 12 is expected to be unveiled at Apple's annual developers conference, WWDC 2025, scheduled for the week of June 5.
