Apple's Budget Vision Pro: Lighter, Cheaper, But Less Sharp
Korea, SouthThursday, November 7, 2024
Apple is looking into two ways to make these new screens. One way is to use thin-film encapsulation (TFE) with a color filter on top. This could make the new Vision Pro smaller and lighter. The current model has been criticized for being too heavy. But this new method might be expensive to mass-produce. It needs a special low-temperature process to avoid damaging the screen.
Samsung is a possible supplier for these new displays. They already use a similar process for their foldable phones. But the budget Vision Pro would need a much denser color filter. This could make the screens more expensive. Samsung is investing heavily in this technology. They might even use it for their own mixed-reality headset.
