The latest MacBook Pro models might be hiding a major upgrade. Display expert Ross Young believes these new MacBooks use quantum dot displays. This technology, often found in high-end TVs and monitors, can show a wider range of colors and better brightness. Apple hasn't officially announced this change. Previously, they used a different film to boost efficiency. These new MacBook Pro models aren't drastically different from the older M3 and M2 versions. However, tests show the screens are brighter now, making them easier to use outdoors. It's unknown if this improvement is due to the new film or something else. Apple hasn’t commented on these rumors yet. It’s strange that they aren’t shouting about this upgrade, like they did with the M4 iPad Pro. Young's data shows these new MacBooks can display more colors than before and have better motion performance. However, Apple still calls these displays "Liquid Retina XDR" and only mentions the wide color P3 gamut and ProMotion adaptive refresh rate. It's possible Apple is understating the improvements to these displays. The new MacBook Pro models are indeed better, but they still have some issues, like the webcam notch. It’s also confusing because rumors suggest an OLED MacBook might not arrive until 2026. This could mean more minor updates for future MacBooks.
