B. C. 's New Green Policies: A Closer Look
British Columbia, CanadaFriday, November 22, 2024
Three new MLAs are leading other environment-related ministries. Tamara Davidson is in charge of Environment and Parks, Randene Neill is handling Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, and Christine Boyle is the Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. Coste feels these ministries often get less attention and power. He hopes Boyle can improve relations with Indigenous communities. But he's concerned that other ministries hold more decision-making power.
Coste is also watching the Water, Land and Resource Stewardship ministry closely. While its goals are noble, other ministries like Forests and Mining hold more power. He's particularly concerned about old-growth forest logging. Until these ministries prioritize protection over logging, B. C. 's goals for old-growth and biodiversity may not be met.
