Bat-Killing Fungus Spotted in Northern California
Sacramento Region, USAWednesday, October 30, 2024
Despite the concern, biologists believe the impact in Northern California might be small, as the dominant bat species here, the Mexican free-tailed bat, doesn't hibernate and isn't as affected by the fungus. Officials ask people not to touch bats, dead or alive, and to disinfect their shoes and clothes after visiting dark, cold areas like caves to prevent the fungus from spreading.
