Bay Area Heat Wave Finally Cooling Down

The Bay Area has been sizzling under one of the hottest starts to October in history. But finally, some relief is on the way. The National Weather Service says temperatures will start to inch back to normal over the next 24 hours. A low-pressure trough in the Gulf of Alaska is helping to break the intense high-pressure ridge that's been causing the heatwave. Temperatures in the hottest areas are expected to drop below 100 degrees and stay there. Places like Oakland and San Mateo will see highs below 80 degrees starting Tuesday. San Francisco, which hit a record 97 degrees on Sunday, will cool down to 73 degrees on Tuesday and 66 degrees on Wednesday.

The heatwave broke several records on its last day. San Rafael hit 108 degrees, breaking a 28-year-old record. Other cities like Santa Rosa, Napa, and Redwood City also broke old heat records. The weather service expects the cooler air and sea breezes to bring more comfort in the coming days. So, it looks like the Bay Area can finally put away the fans and enjoy some cooler weather.
