Bay Area Heatwave: When Will It End?

The Bay Area has been sweltering under triple-digit temperatures all week, and the National Weather Service says the heat isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Although it might cool down a bit on Friday, don't expect much relief. A small air pressure disturbance is bringing some wind and moisture but not enough to stop the heatwave. The excessive heat warning has been extended until Saturday night, and it might even stretch into Sunday for some areas.

Temperatures are expected to peak again over the weekend, with many places hitting 100 degrees or more on both Saturday and Sunday. This heatwave is unlike any we've seen in over four decades, setting records left and right. San Jose hit 101 degrees, King City reached 103, and Salinas hit 99 on Thursday, breaking old records from the 1980s. The good news? The heatwave is expected to fizzle out next week, though exactly when that will happen remains a bit uncertain. A low-pressure trough forming in the Alaskan Gulf could finally bring some relief by midweek, pushing temperatures back down to their average for October.
