Bay Area's Recovery Efforts After Severe Storms

In the aftermath of intense winds and a rare tornado that hit Scotts Valley, crews have been tirelessly working to get things back to normal. The tornado, which touched down on Saturday afternoon, flipped cars and knocked down power lines. Luckily, power has been fully restored and all roads reopened thanks to the quick actions of the Scotts Valley Police Department and other crews. Five people were injured, with three needing medical attention. No one was killed, which is a relief. The tornado followed a path down Mount Hermon Road and around the Scotts Valley Shopping Center for about five minutes. It was given a damage rating of 1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, meaning wind gusts were around 90 miles per hour. This isn't the first tornado California has seen—it averages about 11 a year, usually in the spring and fall.

The Bay Area felt the storm's wrath too. Flooding closed roads in Belmont and Livermore, and thousands were still without power on Sunday. PG&E was working to restore power to customers in several counties. Traffic delays and BART service cuts also occurred due to power outages. The coastal areas around San Francisco and San Pablo bays have been under a minor coastal flood warning since Thursday. Lighter rain and 50-degree temperatures are forecast for the start of the week. Meteorologists say the winds won't be as strong as this past weekend.
