Bermuda Golf Chaos: Delays, Withdrawals, and Weather Woes

The Butterfield Bermuda Championship, a PGA Tour event with a $6. 9 million prize purse, is facing a series of issues in Southampton, Bermuda. The tournament, which is nearing its end, has already seen delays, disqualifications, and numerous withdrawals. The opening round was pushed back and resumed on Friday, with the second round also facing interruptions due to darkness. This forced 11 golfers to finish their rounds on Saturday, causing the round to start at 7:00 a. m. local time. This led to a cutline of 2 under 140, with only 75 players qualifying for the weekend. Despite these challenges, the third round began between 8:08 and 10:20 a. m. However, weather conditions look grim, with a 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms that could interrupt the play. This might push the third round into Sunday and potentially even Monday.

The PGA Tour is not just battling the weather but also dealing with player withdrawals and disqualifications. Chesson Hadley and Robert Streb had previous withdrawals, with two more golfers leaving the event before the second round resumed. A third golfer, Raul Pereda, was disqualified during the second round, possibly due to incorrect scorecard signing.
