By using something called the Lagrange method, they can create a model that shows how these parts interact. This is important because it helps the machine tool work more accurately. The key is to use something called acceleration information. This helps figure out how the parts are moving. A second-order modulation function is used to do this in real-time. That means the machine can adjust itself as it's working! This is called a self-healing mechanical model.

A Kalman filter method is then used to create a system state equation based on this model. This helps identify all the states of the multi-rigid-body system. Acceleration information is used as input to make this happen. Finally, they tested this method on a VMC850 vertical machining center. The results were impressive!
