Only a handful of Black songwriters and musicians have won the top prize in 66 years of Grammy history. . Beyoncé’s win represents what our society has become.
Under the tenure of Recording Academy president and CEO Harvey Mason Jr. , there have been efforts to diversify the voting members, which has opened up the awards to new faces and genres. . The Academy has gradually been moving towards a more inclusive mix of voters, including more women, young people, and those from different ethnic backgrounds. With each new goal reached, it looks like the the Grammys are a force.
Movements toward the future will include even more non-white and women voters. This change brings more fairness, less racism and sexism in the music industry.
