Biden and Netanyahu Discuss Security and Middle East Peace

This morning, President Biden picked up the phone to chat with Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Vice President Harris also joined the conversation. The President made it clear that the U.S. stands solidly behind Israel's security. He didn't mince words when it came to Iran's recent ballistic missile attack on Israel, strongly condemning it. The leaders talked about the need for a diplomatic solution in Lebanon, aiming to get both Israeli and Lebanese civilians safely back to their homes on either side of the Blue Line.

President Biden underscored Israel's right to defend its people from Hezbollah's missile and rocket attacks, but he also stressed the importance of minimizing harm to civilians, especially in places like Beirut. They discussed the urgency of restarting diplomacy to free hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and improving the humanitarian situation there.
