Bill Husted: From NYC to Denver, a Life of Stories and Friendships

Bill Husted started his journey in New York City, and boy, did he have a unique path! He began his college journey with a taxi ride, and his life only got more interesting from there. Moving to Colorado via Crested Butte, where he decided to try out the local bar scene, Bill eventually found his place in Denver. In 1983, he dove into the booming entertainment scene, starting with a gig writing $50 nightlife columns. That was just the beginning. Bill's career blossomed as he became a full-time columnist at the Denver Post and even the Rocky Mountain News before that. Alongside writing, he kept busy with TV and radio appearances, always the man on the town.

Bill had his favorite things: cigars, great books, Key West, and perfect pickles. But his interests were diverse, like his fascination with the electoral college. Spelling wasn't his strongest suit, but his passion for his work and his love for Denver shone through. Sadly, Bill recently passed away after a fight with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of stories and friendships. One memorable tale: Bill once reported seeing Lee Marvin in Aspen. It was a holiday mirage because Marvin had already passed away years ago. This legendary story was among the many shared when Bill was inducted into the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame. His health might have declined, but his wit stayed sharp. Friends reminisced about the days when Denver's dailies sent a dozen reporters, including Bill, to big events like the Olympics in Salt Lake City or the night before gambling opened in Colorado's mountain towns.
