Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick are reuniting on screen for a thrilling sequel. This time, they are heading to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for a lavish wedding. The wedding is for Emily Nelson, played by Lively, who is set to marry a wealthy Italian businessman. The trailer hints at a plot filled with murder and betrayal, making it clear that this wedding won't be as simple as it seems.
The sequel, titled "Another Simple Favor, " is directed by Paul Feig. It is set to stream on Prime Video starting May 1. The film is a co-production between Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate. The cast includes Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, and Allison Janney. The movie premiered at the South by Southwest festival on March 7.
The story revolves around Emily Nelson and Stephanie Smothers, played by Kendrick. In the trailer, Lively asks Kendrick, "Do you think I invited you to get revenge for stealing my life and taking my kid away from me? You think I want to make you pay? " Kendrick replies, "I don’t know. Do you? " This exchange sets the tone for a tense and dramatic storyline.
The movie is based on a script by Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis. Sharzer wrote the screenplay for the original film, which was based on the 2017 novel of the same name by author Darcey Bell.
Lively's most recent film, "It Ends With Us, " was a box office hit, surpassing $350 million globally. The film has been at the center of controversy due to an ongoing legal battle between Lively and director and co-star Justin Baldoni.
Feig has shown support for Lively on social media, defending her after a user questioned their professional relationship. "Blake has been nothing but supportive and a dream to work with, " Feig posted. "She is the best and an amazing collaborator, and I’m her biggest fan. "
The original film, "A Simple Favor, " was released by Lionsgate in September 2018. It earned $53 million at the domestic box office and collected $97 million globally. Critics praised the performances of Kendrick and Lively, with Jon Frosch of The Hollywood Reporter noting that Feig guided the stars smoothly through the plot's twists and turns.
The sequel promises to be just as engaging, with a mix of drama, suspense, and intrigue. Fans of the original film will be eager to see how the story unfolds in this new chapter.
