Bolsonaro's Health Declines Amid Hospital Stay

Brasilia, DF, BrazilSaturday, March 14, 2026

Brazilian Ex‑President Bolsonaro Remains in Intensive Care

The former president of Brazil is still in intensive care after a lung infection, but doctors report his kidney health has worsened and inflammation markers are rising. The DF Star hospital in Brasília confirmed that there is no current plan for him to leave the facility.

The 70‑year‑old receives antibiotics, IV fluids, breathing and movement therapy, and blood‑clot prevention.

He was admitted on Friday following a case of bronchoaspiration that caused bronchopneumonia, a lung disease that can lead to breathing problems.

Bolsonaro is serving a 27‑year sentence for attempting a coup after losing the 2022 election to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

His family and legal team have asked for a transfer to house arrest since he was jailed last year. Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who oversees the case, has denied these requests, and a court panel upheld his decision.
