Imagine having access to top-notch emergency services, just a stone's throw away from your home or workplace. That's exactly what MUSC Health is working towards, with a massive $30 million investment in their downtown Columbia location. The goal is to double the number of patient beds and install cutting-edge technology, allowing them to provide trauma care, cardiac care, and stroke care – all under one roof.
This significant expansion is a response to the growing healthcare needs of the community. "We're committed to meeting the health care needs of the people we serve," says Bill Phillips, Chief Medical Officer of MUSC Health Columbia medical centers Downtown and Northeast. "By expanding our Emergency Department services, we're taking a major step towards improving access to critical care for residents of Columbia and the surrounding areas."
MUSC Health acquired four locations in August 2021, including Columbia Medical Center Downtown, which is set to undergo this transformation. The other three locations include Columbia Medical Center Northeast, Fairfield Emergency, and Kershaw Medical Center.
