Boosting Spleen Detection in Ultrasound: A Hybrid Approach

Have you ever wondered how doctors can accurately spot your spleen in a fuzzy ultrasound image? Turns out, a clever mix of two powerful methods called SegFormerB0 and Pix2Pix can do the job beautifully. First, the SegFormerB0 network takes a stab at finding the spleen. Then, the Pix2Pix structure steps in to fine-tune the details, correcting any mistakes. This dynamic duo uses the best of both worlds to get super precise results.

To test their method, researchers created the Spleenex dataset, which includes 450 ultrasound images of the spleen. Their approach outshone current top models, like SSNet and U-Net, with a whopping 94. 17% mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) and 96. 82% mean Dice (mDice) score. Even when images were noise-y, their method still performed exceptionally, showcasing its real-world usefulness in hospitals.
