Border Dispute: Thailand and Cambodia Agree to Pause Fighting
A Long-Standing Dispute
Thailand and Cambodia have once again agreed to stop fighting. This isn't new. They've been arguing over land for a long time. The problem started with a map from 1907.
- Thailand says the map is wrong.
- Cambodia says it's right.
A court ruled in Cambodia's favor in 1962. Many Thais are still upset about that.
The Conflict
Both countries have been using weapons:
- Thailand has jets.
- Cambodia has rockets.
Six Thai soldiers died. Their homes and buildings are damaged. Thailand even destroyed a crane near an old temple, claiming it was used for spying.
International Involvement
President Trump announced that the leaders agreed to stop fighting. He talked to both leaders and shared the news on social media. This isn't the first time they've agreed to a ceasefire. They did it before in July but continued fighting a little.
Trump also threatened to stop trade if they didn't stop fighting. However, they still argued and fought a little. Now, they are trying again.
Will It Last?
Only time will tell if this agreement will hold.
