Boston's Freezing Weekend: An Arctic Blast is Coming!
Southern New England, USATuesday, January 7, 2025
Despite the cold, lakes and ponds might start to get an icy layer, but it won't be thick enough for safety yet. Ice that forms now is weaker, so wait for the new, stronger ice. Interestingly, Saturday's morning will be the closest Earth is to the sun, but it's the angle of the sun that matters more. The good news? We'll start seeing earlier sunrises, giving us more daylight.
Regionally, Southern New England will be breezy and cold, while Western Mass will see partly cloudy skies. The Cape and Islands will have blustery conditions, and Northern New England will experience colder temperatures with strong winds.
