Pennsylvania is in for a rough ride this week.

After a recent snowfall, a frigid arctic blast is sweeping through the central part of the state. This isn't just any cold snap; it's bringing dangerously low temperatures and strong winds that could make it feel even colder.

Warnings and Expectations

The National Weather Service has issued warnings for northern counties. They expect an extra one to two inches of snow today and tonight, with some areas possibly getting three to four inches. This is on top of what's already fallen. Temperatures are set to drop drastically, with some places hitting record lows.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected, making it feel even colder, especially in higher areas. Visibility might drop below half a mile in some regions due to lake effect snow. This means driving and outdoor activities could be risky.

A Brief Respite

Things will get a bit better on Monday. Temperatures will rise slightly, but it will still be much colder than usual. A weak weather system passing by will bring more clouds and scattered snow showers later in the day.

A Welcome Warm-Up

The good news is that a significant change is coming. Starting Tuesday, milder air will move in, and by midweek, some areas could see temperatures in the 40s. This will be a welcome break from the unusually cold December the state has been experiencing.

Short-Lived Relief

However, this warm-up won't last long. A cold front is expected to push through by Friday, bringing cooler temperatures again, though not as extreme as the current arctic blast.

Winter Arrival

Winter officially begins next Sunday, December 21, at 10:03 a.m. So, it's time to bundle up and stay safe.
