The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a series of alerts across the U.S., warning of frost, freeze, and snow. This isn't just about inconvenience; it's about potential damage to crops, plants, and even plumbing.
Alaska Braces for Heavy Snow
In Alaska, things are looking particularly snowy. The Dalton Highway Summits are under a winter weather advisory, with up to six inches of snow expected. Winds could gust up to 30 miles per hour, making it a rough ride for anyone out in the open.
Freeze Warnings in the Lower 48
Meanwhile, in the lower 48, freeze warnings and watches are in place for parts of Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia, and North Carolina. Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with some areas seeing lows in the 20s.
Cyclone and Cold Front Threats
The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is also keeping an eye on an intense cyclone moving away from New England. This could bring lake effect precipitation and keep temperatures below average for the weekend and into Monday.
And if that's not enough, a weak cyclone and cold front could bring rain and even severe storms to parts of the Midwest, Texas Gulf Coast, Tennessee/Ohio Valleys, and the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic coast.
