Brain Damage and Ice Hockey: What's the Link?
North America, CanadaFriday, December 6, 2024
Ice hockey is a fast-paced game with plenty of body contact. Players can get hit in the head quite often. Scientists want to understand if these hits could lead to CTE. They think the more time a player spends on the ice, the higher the chance they might develop this brain disease.
CTE is a nasty condition. It can cause problems with thinking, memory, and even emotions. It's a big deal for athletes, but also for anyone who might get repeated head hits, like in certain jobs or even from falls.
So, should we be worried about ice hockey players? Maybe. But remember, more research is needed to figure out for sure. It's important to keep our brains safe, especially when playing sports.
