Sexual violence is a serious issue that affects people of all genders. However, when it comes to male victims, there's often a lot of silence and stigma. A recent study in Lagos, Nigeria, wanted to understand how much male undergraduates know about sexual violence, what they think about it, and how common it is among them. The study involved 400 male students from a university in Lagos. They were asked questions about their experiences and views on sexual violence. The average age of the students was about 23 years old. Most of them had a good understanding of what sexual violence is. Almost all of them had positive attitudes towards preventing sexual violence against men. But the findings also showed that sexual violence is not just a myth. About 13% of the students had experienced child sexual abuse. Around 16% had faced sexual harassment, and 10% had been sexually assaulted. The study also found that if someone had experienced violence as a child, they were more likely to experience it again as an adult. This study highlights the need for everyone to work together to prevent sexual violence. It's not just a problem for one group or one sector to solve. Everyone has a role to play in making sure that all people, regardless of gender, are safe and respected.
