Britain Fights Back: New Sanctions Hit Russian 'Fake News' Creators

On Monday, Britain announced fresh sanctions against several high-profile Russians and their PR agencies. These agencies, namely the Social Design Agency, Structura National Technologies, and ANO DIALOG, are accused of spreading lies and causing chaos through a massive online network known as "Doppelganger. " This network is said to have produced fake social media posts, bogus documents, and deepfake videos, all aimed at confusing audiences in multiple languages including English, German, and French. The masterminds behind this operation include Ilya Andreevich Gambashidze and Andrey Naumovich Perla from the Social Design Agency, alongside Nikolay Aleksandrovich Tupikin, who owns Structura and serves as the CEO of the Social Design Agency.

British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, is furious. He believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is so desperate to turn Europe against Ukraine that he's resorting to clumsy tactics to stir up unrest. Lammy made it clear that Britain won't stand for these shenanigans. The British government contends that the Social Design Agency created over 120 fake websites mimicking news and government sites. Other countries, including the United States, France, Germany, Australia, and the European External Action Service, have also expressed concern about the underhanded activity. In response, the U. S. State Department stated that a free, open, and fact-based information environment is vital for a healthy democracy, and democracies must act when "malign actors" like these try to undermine it.
