Britain Urges Europe to Keep Up Sanctions on Russia
Britain’s government has called on its allies to keep applying economic pressure on Russia, following a temporary pause in U.S. sanctions that allow the purchase of stranded Russian oil at sea.
The United States announced the pause to ease global energy markets unsettled by the Ukraine conflict and Iran tensions. However, many European leaders fear that this move could undermine efforts to cut off Russia’s war funding.
The British spokesperson highlighted that sanctions have already removed at least $450 billion from Russia since the war began. Maintaining pressure, they argue, is crucial to ending fighting in Ukraine and preventing Russia from supporting hostile groups worldwide.
Britain pledges to continue pushing for maximum economic pressure on Russia, believing that collective action is the only way to achieve a fair and lasting peace.
